The Men's 3s edged a tight game 2-1 over Tadcaster to leap-frog them into 3rd in the league

After a free Saturday last week, the Men’s 3rd X1 were back in action away against Tadcaster 2nds who were in 3rd place in the league (one place above Halifax).

It promised to be a tight game and so it proved.

Tadcaster were getting a lot of players forward and Halifax defence were struggling to cope with balls being hammered into the D but with some good defence by Sean Fitzpatrick and keeper Owen Waite plus a little bit of luck, they managed to keep the score sheet blank.

As the game went on the visitors started to come into the game with Jamie Maddock solid as ever at the back and Simon Meredith starting to get more possession.

The fast passing and speed of Michael Broadbent, Cameron Helliwell and Harry Greenwood were really giving the Tadcaster defence major headaches and the team were able to force a series of penalty corners.

Top scorer Dave Collins finally got on the end of one of these to slot the ball home.

Tadcaster finally benefitted from there tactic of smashing the ball into the D when their centre forward deflected the ball into the net to equalise.

Veteran Paul Graham was asking the team to concentrate on maintaining possession better with more controlled passing to deny Tadcaster opportunities.

This worked well as the team were able to get the ball into more forward position and they stole the game with a good move which saw Greenwood drive down the right wing and slip a good cross into the danger area for Collins to beat the keeper from close range.

A hard fought 2-1 win which takes them into 3rd place.
