A good performance and a 3-1 win against a solid City of York side cements Halifax in third place with an eye on the final promotion spot.

Halifax were determined to get more from the return game at Huntingdon School after throwing away a four goal lead at home against City of York at the beginning of the season.

Both sides started fast with a lot of attacks at both ends, helped on by some sloppy passing from both sides.

Despite numerous chances for both sides it took until nearly half time to break the deadlock with City of York grabbing the opening goal. It wasn't long before Halifax drew level after some good running by Cameron Hellowell and a one-two with John Horsley saw Hellowell put the ball in the back of the net from close range.

Halifax started the second half looking to control the game after being urged by Captain Stephen Fawkes during the half time team talk to be less wasteful with possession and keep calm.

Keeping the ball better led to a Halifax long corner. Some quick passing between David Willis and Sam Spencer allowed Spencer to feed the ball into the D where Horsley turned his marker and dispatched his shot into the back of the net.

Building on the good possession, Christian Mayland set off on a mazy dribble from the opposition’s 25 culminating in a quality reverse stick shot that was stopped by an opposition body on the line.

Horsley stepped up to take the resulting penalty flick, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

Spurred on by the goal, City of York started putting the pressure on the Halifax defence, which brought about some smart saves from keeper James Smith.

City of York couldn't get the ball into Smith's goal despite forcing numerous short corners right at the end meaning the game ended with Halifax as 3-1 winners.
