Draw for Mens 2s against top of league

Finding out that Rhydding would be starting with 10 Halifax were optimistic of a good start against the league leaders.

Halifax were able to control the midfield from the start and put pressure on the Rhydding back line but were unable to convert any chances.

Once the 11th man turned up for Rhydding the game evened out with neither side fashioning clear cut chances.

Even without the regular half backs the Halifax defence looked composed on the ball with Josh Barron at right back providing an outlet to start attacking moves. Half time came with the scores level at 0-0.

In the second half Halifax started better forcing a couple short corners from one of which came the first goal of the match. An unfamiliar group lined up at the top of the D, some confusion between Halifax players meaning Rhydding were on the back foot and when the ball got through to Horsley near the left post it was duly dispatched into the back of the net.

Halifax kept on the pressure with good work from Barron driving at the Rhydding midfield opening up space for Halifax to attack. This pressure started to frustrate Rhydding culminating in one of the Rhydding players kicking the ball away after the umpire blew a foul against him gifting Halifax another short corner.

As the match progressed John Horsley and Sam Spencer forced some good saves from the Rhydding keeper but couldn't find a way through. Close to the end of the game Rhydding managed to force the ball into the D and a good (or lucky) deflection saw the ball end up in the back of the net.

Both sides looked to up their game in the final couple of minutes in search of a winner but to no avail and the game ended at 1-1.

Plenty of opportunities before the late goal left Halifax feeling they should have won the game but taking a point away from home against the league leaders was a good result.
