After a disappointing loss to Sheffield Uni Bankers the Men's Seconds were looking to bounce back against long term rivals Rotherham, and walked away with a thumping 6-1 win!!

In the pre-match team talk Captain Steve Fawkes impressed upon the team the need to score quickly and make sure we were out of sight by half time and an ambitious target of being 4 goals up by the break was set.

Halifax started quickly pressing the Rotherham defence and exposing the weaknesses of a side sitting at the bottom of the table.

The pressure from Halifax soon told with Kristian Mayland converting after a strong run into the D. With Rotherham struggling to get the ball to their attack some good vision saw Andy Marsland pick out leading scorer John Horsley with a precise pass releasing the striker to round the keeper and slot home Halifax's second.

With the defence easily able to deal with any Rotherham attack Halifax were able to continue to dominate the first half.

The midfield were combining well, with some good distribution from Marsland in the centre, to keep the pressure on the Rotherham defence.

Adding 2 more from close range to his tally, Horsley ensured Halifax went into the break with deserved 4 goal lead, just as the captain requested.

At the half time team talk Captain Fawkes once again set the target for the second half, 2 early goals to keep the pressure on Rotherham and stop them getting back into the game.

An early mistake by Rotherham after the pushback saw Halifax awarded a short corner which Mayland calmly converted with a flick. With a five goal cushion Halfiax backed off letting the Rotherham midfield get back into the game and seeing a period of more pressure on the Halfiax defence.

Fortunately no leaks were exposed and it wasn't long before Halifax scored again. A long ball out of defence by Paul Mayes somehow got through to Dave Willis up front leaving a one-on-one with the keeper which Willis duly dispatched despite having forgotten his stick!

The rest of the game played out without much drama until a Rotherham striker slipped through the Halifax defence to score a reverse stick effort with the last hit of the game.

Meeting the Captains expectations of 6 goals the team were nevertheless disappointed to lose their clean sheet at the last minute.

Still recording a dominant victory that takes them up into 4th meant the disappointment was short lived.
