Halifax 2s 3 - 2 Brigg 2s

Halifax 2s registered their second win of the season, and their first win at home, in a brilliant tale of two halves against Brigg.

While the first half was close, Halifax unfortunately conceded two decent goals and went into the half time break 0-2. It was looking like another one of those days of near misses and close calls. However, what was to come was the best second half of Halifax’s season and a promising omen for the rest of the season and beyond.

No one knows what happened at half time. Rumours are that Captain Arch gave his team the most motivating of all motivational team talks. Some say that Father Spencer gave one of his sermons. Others say that they were too tired to talk. Whatever it was, however, it worked - there can be no doubt about that! In the second half Halifax noticeably put more and more pressure onto Brigg, pressed a lot higher up the pitch, and played more on the front foot.

This slight change in attitude and performance meant that Halifax started to slowly take control of the game and exert pressure onto Brigg. Brigg were slowly but surely forced back and resorted to long hits upfield, usually finding a Halifax defender every time. As the pressure grew on Brigg, Halifax started to create more and more opportunities. After some close calls Halifax managed to score not one, and not two, but three goals without reply. The goals came from Rob Amos, Archie King and the winner came from Finn Owen-Smith with moments to spare. It’s fair to say that Halifax could have scored even more goals in the second half.

Halifax thoroughly deserved to win the game this excellent come back just goes to show what is possible and how much this team has improved week on week. Man of the Match went to Fin Owen-Smith for the winning goal.
