Halifax ladies travelled to Away to Doncaster in their first league match following a string of cancelled matches due to the bad weather. Having lost 3-0 to Doncaster at home Halifax, expected a tough match but were hoping to be able to get some all important points.
Both sides started strong with some excellent hockey being played. Doncaster, having a strong side did pile on the pressure on the away side which the Halifax defence matched.
The only goal of the first half came from a penalty stroke that was awarded to Doncaster following a foul on the line by Halifax.
Into the second half, both sides were evenly matched with some great hockey being played. Halifax did come close on a few occasions but some good play by the Doncaster defence kept the ball out of the net. About mid way into the second half Doncaster, against the run of play, got their second goal.
Halifax dug deep and tried to pile on the pressure changing formation to attack the home side. However, Doncaster continued to defend well and built up play from the back to achieve their 3rd goal. Even though Halifax continued to work hard and without goal keeper Sharon Crawshaw who went off injured, they were unable to get a goal back. In the last 7 minutes without a keeper Doncaster got their final goal for their 4-0 win.
Currently towards the bottom of the table, Halifax have a lot of positives to build on from the Doncaster game and are hopeful of good performances in the coming double weekend against Huddersfield Dragons.
