Team performance earns Ladies 1sts victory

Following recent disappointing results, Halifax Ladies 1st team hoped for 3 points against bottom of the league Driffield. Following the journey over to the east coast, a strong Halifax side started well with some good linking. Both sides were pretty evenly matched but mid way through the first half Halifax got their first goal from a well struck short corner by Emma Crawford. Having gone one goal ahead, and defensively strong, it looked like Halifax would continue to move ahead, however after a run of short corners successfully defended, Driffield managed to sneak a goal back to equalize the game. The score remained 1-1 at half time.

Into the second half, and a change in formation by Driffield unsettled the away side for a few moments. But eventually Halifax found their feet and played some of the best hockey so far this season. Lauren Wright and Zoe Hartley began to dominate play in centre of midfield, with some excellent links with both forwards and defence. The winning goal came with 15 minutes to go when Steph Jones broke away down the right and struck the ball hard into the oppositions circle for Hartley to put the ball in the back of the net.

Halifax continued to play some excellent hockey and stopped Driffield getting their equaliser.

A good team performance and the all important 3 points gained going into the Christmas break which leaves the Park Lane side in 5th position in the North league.
