Ladies 1sts lose 3-0 to top of the table Leeds in a disappointing home defeat

Halifax 1sts 0 – 3 Leeds 1sts

Halifax were hoping to gain 3 points after the disappointing loss gain Boston Spa a few weeks ago.

Facing top of the league Leeds at home, Halifax started very well with some strong team play. Defensively strong from the start, which increased with the return of injured Sam Smith, the home side looked like the 3 points were attainable. However, against the run of play the away side sneaked a first goal from an impossible angle to put them ahead.

This unsettled Halifax, who although never gave up, found themselves being matched by some good play by Leeds and going 2 behind when Leeds put a high ball behind the keeper into the net.

At 2-0 at half time, Halifax went into the second time with renewed vigour to try and get the goals back. With some clashes with the umpire, the Halifax side found themselves with 10 players and the run of play going against them.

Never giving up, Halifax did come close on a number of occasions with Zoe Hartley hitting the post. But unfortunately on the day were unable to put the ball away and Leeds managed to get another goal.

This leaves Halifax in 6th position, equal in points with Slazengers, but lower on goal difference.

Next week Halifax face bottom of the league Driffield away, where they hope to get 3 points from a comfortable win.
