An away trip to Leeds saw the ladies 1sts notch up their 3rd victory in a row with a well deserved 3-2 win

Leeds 1sts 2 – 3 Halifax 1sts

Scorers : Crawford (2), Hartley

Halifax Ladies travelled away this weekend to face Leeds Ladies 1st Team at Weetwood.

As Leeds were at near the top of the North league, Halifax were again expecting a tough match. Halifax had a shaky start and within 7 minutes of the game were 2-0 down when they enabled Leeds to converted two early short corners.

Having left themselves a difficult uphill challenge to gain even a point from the game, Halifax started to find their form, and get on top of the game. With some excellent play, particularly in defence, Halifax managed to get a goal back after about 18 minutes when Emma Crawford pounced on deflected save from the Leeds keeper to make the score 2-1 going into half time.

In the second half, Halifax continued to play well with some excellent play in all areas, especially down the right hand side with a new partnership of Lauren Wright and Katie Love linking well. Then against the run of play, Leeds broke away and almost scored when they flicked the ball towards the goal, which saw keeper Sharon Crawshaw complete a dramatic save, much to the annoyance of the celebrating Leeds side.

This crucial save turned the match around and Halifax started to dominate and get the upper hand. Half way through the second half Halifax were awarded a short corner that Emma Crawford converted getting her second goal of the match.

At 2-2, Halifax continued to work well as a unit and with 10 minutes to go, following good build up down the right hand side and a scramble in front of goal, Zoe Hartley lifted the ball over the keeper the get that all important winning goal.

This excellent third win in a row, takes the Halifax side to 5th position. Next week, Halifax will have another tough game at home against Rotherham who are currently 2nd in the league.
