Halifax 1sts 2 – 1 Driffield 1sts
Scorers : Crawford (2)
In a double weekend in the North League, Halifax first faced Driffield at home on Saturday 27th October.
With both teams at the lower end of the table Halifax was hopeful of that all important first win.
Halifax started well and immediately had the upper hand and put pressure on the Driffield defence who took a while to settle. About 15 minutes into the first half, and against the run of play the away side hit the ball from outside the D but a new rule for this season meant a deflection from the home side put Driffield one goal ahead.
Halifax didn’t let the goal affect their play and continued to battle hard with some excellent teamwork and determination to get the win. Just before the half time whistle Halifax gained the equaliser when Emma Crawford put away a deflection in front of goal.
Into the second half, and in front of a large home crowd, Halifax continued to work well as a unit in all areas of the pitch but were equally matched at times by the Driffield side. Midway through the second half, Halifax stepped up their play and started to link well with some excellent teamwork, and good keeping by Jess Thornber.
It was with about 5 minutes to go that Halifax managed to get that all important winning goal when the home side earned a corner that Emma Crawford put away.
The score remained at 2-1, with the away side finishing with 10 men after one of their players was yellow carded after a malicious tackle against Jo Love.
A well deserved with and 3 points earned that moved Halifax off the bottom spot
