Ladies 1sts travelled away to top of the table Chapletown, and despite defeat can be pleased with their improving performances and brilliant team effort

Chapletown 1sts 3 – 2 Halifax 1sts

Scorers : Greenwood, Holroyd

Halifax travelled away this weekend to top of the league Chapletown in the North League. Having yet to gain a point, Halifax were determined to put up a fight to get that all important win. Both teams started well, and were evenly matched throughout. Halifax were unable to capitalise, despite having various opportunities on goal. The first goal came when Chapletown broke away against the run of play and put the ball in the back of the net after about 15 minutes. Not letting the goal effect their play Halifax continued to attack the Chapletown defence with some excellent linking from midfield and attack. With end to end play the Chapletown attacked earned themselves a penalty corner with they capitalised on getting their 2nd goal.

Into the second half, Halifax again worked hard with some excellent distribution from midfield that led to Halifax gaining a penalty corner which the Chapletown defence stopped on the line with a foot earning Halifax a penalty stroke which captain Jane Greenwood put away with confidence, after about 10 minutes. With renewed vigour, Halifax continued to fight to get that all important equaliser, which led to Chapletown breaking through and again earning a penalty corner which the home side put away. At 3-1 down, Halifax never stopped working for each other with some excellent play throughout the team. They were rewarded with a second goal when Michaela Holroyd won a battle in front of goal to put the ball over the line. Halifax then started to dominated the game and had the majority of the possession trying hard to get the equaliser, but to the relief of the home side the full whistle was blown. Another brilliant effort by Halifax who are getting stronger each week and look forward to getting the first win they deserve.
