The first win of the season for Halifax Ladies 1s came with a 5-2 win away to Wakefield.
Despite having some new players in the team Halifax played well together and were deserving of the victory.
Wakefield started strongly and had much of the possession in the first ten minutes with Halifax struggling to get the ball to the forwards, but as they settled in to the game the chances started to come for the away team. A run through the middle from Steph Jones created space for Rebecca Brown on the right who then pulled the ball back for Dani Parker to slot in.
The second goal also went to Dani Parker who had received the ball in the D and fired it home from short range. Despite pressure from Wakefield down both the left and right wings the defence worked hard to cut out any chances and keep the home team from scoring.
A third goal came from Anya Wasilewski on her debut for the first team. The ball was crossed from the right and the youngster perfectly timed her shot to slip the ball through the keeper's legs.
Following the restart a poor pass from Halifax's defence meant that the ball was cut out by a Wakefield forward who rounded the keeper to make it 3-1.
Halifax continued to push forward and two quick goals from Michaela Midgley made it 5-1. The first was a simple tap in from close range but the second was a deflection from a shot which she managed to tip over the keeper with the edge of her stick.
A final goal came for Wakefield with the last touch of the game as the ball was crossed in from the right and slotted home to finish the game 5-2.
