The Men's 1st XI travelled away to Grimsby and put in probably their worst performance of the season, resulting in a 3-2 defeat.

The team had plenty of possession but just couldn't get the basics correct and Grimsby played a good controlled passing game which was effective.

The team clearly missed captain and top scorer Matthew Graham and although Jake Bamforth worked hard up front, other players just did not make the corect choices with pass selection and scoring opportunities.

The lads did not start to play until the last 15 minutes and by then they were 3-0 down.

Michael Jones scored with a lovely drag flick from a penalty corner and Bamforth made it 3-2 from close range.

Despite laying seige to the Grimsby goal in last 5 minutes, they were unable to get an equaliser.

Matthew Bairtow hit the post and Tom Love came close but it was not to be.

Only their 2nd league defeat of the season, and the team stay on top of the pile in Division 1 with 4 games to go.

With no game next Saturday, the team will need to get back to basics and sort themselves out before hard games in March against Rotherham who are 2nd in table and a dangerous Slazengers side.

They do not want to leave it until the last game of the season against lowly oposition to secure promotion to the Premier Division.
