Latest U14 Boys Tournament took place at Thirsk

Boys U14 Yorkshire league 3 matches this morning at Thirsk HC.

After promotion last Month, the boys were expecting some hard games and so it was.

1st up were a strong Thirsk side who were just a bit sharper than the Halifax lads. Amelie Horner, Alex Walker and Peter Stobart defended really well but the pressure told in the end with Thirsk running out 3-0 winners.

Harrogate were next and the boys had more time to pass the ball around and they soon began to dominate with Joe Costello leading the way with good support from Michael brook and Finlay Owen Smith. Owen smith's pace was causing Harrogate problems and from one of his runs Halifax were awarded a penalty corner The ball was injected well by Brooke and Sam Bizley struck a fine shot into the corner of the Harrogate net. The game was made safe when a great move down the left involving Rory Neal Horner and Costello resulted in Noah Thomis squeezing the ball past the advancing keeper. 2-0 win.

The final game was against Leeds who had just beaten Thirsk so a hard game was expected. The Halifax were more prepared but were unable to keep the outstanding Leeds play maker away from their D and he scored both goals in a difficult first 15 minutes. Tom Batchelor worked hard and both Owen Smith and Bizley had chances that were well saved by the strong Leeds keeper. Harrison Thomis in the Halifax goal was kept busy but made some good saves to keep Halifax in the game but they were unable to get that all important 1st goal and went down 2-0.

The one win should keep them in the league in 3rd place with Harrogate relegated and Leeds promoted.
