The U14 boys team started their Yorkshire league campaign with 2 good wins to ensure promotion to a higher division in the next round of matches in November.
With several boys unavailable, 2 U14 girls were called into the squad and both were excellent with Amelie Horner showing very good positioning which enabled good tackles to be won and possession maintained with solid passing. Issy English also made telling contributions including a goal in the 1st game.
The 1st game against a good Leeds Adel team saw Jack Thomson in dominant form at the heart of the Halifax defence and his distribution from the back opened up Adel and allowed Joe Costello to control the midfield with the help of Michael Brook and Noah Thomis.
Speedy forward Finlay Owen Smith was causing Adel problem and it was not long before the team opened the scoring and quickly made it 2. English and Rhy Hancock scoring 2 very well taken chances. Brook made the game safe with a 3rd.
Having to play 2 games on the bounce may have contributed to a rather sloppy 2nd game against Wakefield.
The passing was not finding the correct players and the team stopped getting width in their play and Wakefield were given too much possession.
Harrison Thomis had to make a couple of smart saves in the Halifax goal before the team got their act together. Charlie Glenn and Rory Neal made some good passes and once the team passed accurately, Owen Smith and Noah Thomis looked dangerous.
Costello got a well deserved goal and Brook had 3 shots go wide before Owen Smith also scored a well deserved goal to make it 2-0.
Wakefield did get a consolation goal on the break when Halifax went to sleep but 2-1 was the final result with the players looking forward to some hard games in the next tournament.
